Participants express their experiences

I have listed the comments and remarks, which I received on the evaluation forms or by e-mail during the “In Company” English Seminars and Public Seminars:

The first public Seminar was presented in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, The Netherlands, end of May 2008. Since then, more then 81 “In Company” and Public Seminars were presented to more the 2000 participants.

See below some of the comments received from the delegates:

Some e-mails and comments in the evaluation Forms from the Dubai Seminar on 9,10 and 11th of Feb 2015:

——————-

Hi Richard

Thanks for sending the certificate promptly.
The seminar was well organised, was at a good location and the venue chosen was just right.
Dubai is quite far from Kenya but it was worthwhile coming all the way. The knowledge obtained was far more than my expectations.

Less Breaks and earlier as it gets very tiring

——————

This Seminar not for 3 Days, its more for one week for more about learning

——————

Excellent Seminar, Photos & Videos were very helpful in explaining real operations and how accounts happen if you miss out your calculations

——————

The 3 Day Training was excellent. Through this  Seminar I could evaluate myself & I can give better service to this Industry in future.

——————

Suggest to have course Material on CD for Free, both Hard Copy and Soft Copy can be distributed & Circulated

——————-

Some areas it was too technical as I am not from an engineering back ground, but from shipping.

——————-

Some e-mails and comment in the evaluation Forms from the Dubai Seminar on 9,10 and 11th of Feb 2015

——————-

Maybe would be also good to talk a little more about tower cranes

——————–

Seminar can be delivered in 5 Days instead of 3 Days, which can be more flexible on Questions and Answers.

OUTSTANDING PRESENTATION BY THE INDUSTRY EXPERT

STEVE COROTIS

———————

Update the Videos, they are too old

———————

*  Arranging of Chapters, so you can begin with Safety and Planning and then move over to more Technical Chapters

* Also to give the Course on CD as already we paid for it, so no need for extra cost the Soft Copy

———————-

Meeting room was too small for the number of delegates. Internet access was frustrated (Max. 13 delegates only)

———————-

I would like the Seminar to cover more on Standards and inform us how is standard oriented to each market. Also, some more tips on what to expect from clients and how to answer them.

———————-
Course is well explained and provided good proven knowledge
———————-

Dear Mr. Richard,

I would like to thank you very much indeed for your valuable seminar. I have realized many point that I had to increase my knowledge and experiences thanks to you. I would be appreciate if you always keep me in loop when you are making another seminar programs.

Dear Richard,

Thank you for your seminar 2 days in Singapore. I have arrived safely in Surabaya and have resume work. I wish I have 3 days course as there are more time to cover and more time to question. But overall everything is good and very informative.

I have 1 problem, I can not open the thumbdrive that contain the seminars slides. What can we do about it?

Looking forward to hear from you again.

Dear Richard,

Thank you for coming to Moscow and sharing your knowledge with my team and partners.

We hope that the first seminar you did was the beginning of a vast learning program that we plan for the Russian heavy cargo specialists.  According to our feedback surveys your presentation was very well received and appreciated by all the participants.

Our company pays particular attention to the safety of cargo and people that is why we feel important to share the principals presented by you with the all the market leaders. Let’s make our meetings a good tradition and schedule the next seminar this fall in St. Petersburg!

Sergey Ovsienko,
General Director
Beluga Projects Logistic, CJSC

—————-

I suggest that the videos should  be made available in soft copy to participants

Comment of Heavy Lift Specialist:
All videos and a step by step presentation of all slides are available for sale from my webshop: http://www.heavyliftspecialist.com/shop/ or some videos can be downloaded for free from YouTube

————–

Maybe add a few  more blank spaced where certain formulas can be practiced  so as to understand the concepts

—————

The course is too short for beginners. There should be levels of the course or prior info especially literature and notes before the lectures.

————–

The Pace could be a little slower. The Handbook must take into account, that not every participant has a science background and must be more detailed.

————–

I wish that more time should be allowed for the course, at least 4 days!!. This will enable the participants assimilate all that is received

————–

Facilitator is a highly experienced  engineer and excellent on the subject matter. An excellent program, if targeted at participants with suitable background

————-

Preparing a Cost Estimate can be left out. Maintenance and Safety can be shortened. At least  the minimum of sea- and trailer lashing and securing

————-

More time should be allowed for it.

————-

You may have to go tight on time re questions and calculations. The concepts and templates are awesome

————-

It was a great experience. Clearly brought about how even in our own homes, we do things wrongly without accessing the risk. It has given me different perspective to working on project/heavy lift cargo. The Presenter indeed is a specialist with a  very broad and wide knowledge in  the Industry

————-

Targeting the Shipping and Industrial technicians and engineers in Port handling activities

————-

Perhaps do home work to review the next day and allow people time to grasp and apply calculations

————-

Depending on the type of professions, the presentation should if be to fed………..

————-

As a freight Forwarder, I recommend a lighter version of this presentation for forwarders, as this would allow them to appreciate the essential part of lifting of Heavy materials in the logistics chain.

————-

Just right in time. You may consider to present this Seminar in 3 days

————–

The numbering in the Hand-out are poor, it should have been e.g.  11.1, 11.2 , 11.3 etc.

Comment of the Heavy Lift Specialist
The numbering is quite clear. Each Chapter is mentioned on each slide in the Header and all slides are numbered at the right hand corner. Maybe you missed that?  http://www.heavyliftspecialist.com/shop/

————–

You should slow down on your speaking and the number of days for the Seminar should be extended

————–

Course is meant for engineers or studying engineers. Course should run over 5 days and allow for more preparation etc.

————–

I learned in 2 Days more then in did so in my 25 years experience in shipping industry. Richard you should vary the Topics next time.

————–

As a permanent Duty Manager, I would like to transfer all I have learned here, but my colleagues are French speaking. Could you prepare the main chapters in French and make it available to our company, based in Cameroon and Chad??

Comment of the Heavy Lift Specialist:
It will not be possible to translate the main chapters in French, as I am just a  one man show and do not have the resources to translate it into Portugese, Spanish, German or French. I am sorry

————–

Go faster through technical issues/calculations. More emphasis on practice

————–

Adapt to the audience, we had sufficient prior knowledge of Newtons law and moment equations. Your experience and anecdotes were very educational!!

————–

As engineer the part about lifting stability was most interesting after all a great Seminar!!

————-

Richard clearly explained how the basic principles of mechanics are applied in the daily practice of Heavy lifting

————

Dear Mr. Richard Krabbendam,
Thank you for all your efforts in answering emails and providing me access to these heavy lifting documents. I downloaded all files successfully. They are informative and very helphul to me. All these lessons will surely improve my knowledge and skill as a field mechnical engineer.
Thank you again for your help and
Best Regards,
Yanbo Zhou

———–

Please supply more technical calculations together with words explaining in your articles. Thank you.

———–

Kindly increase the seminar to 3 days!

———–

Need more focus on Shipping operations and technical aspects

———-

This is the first time I am attending this masterclass and need more time to understand more. This is a very informative lesson, we must learn this.  Thanks Richard.

———–

Have not checked the website, however if this course would be for 3 days, would be much better and given time to grasp and do more exercises

It could be better if a soft copy of the training book is provided

———–

3 day course would be nice to cover all the details

———–

Maybe if you have a program for beginners, it will help build a whole new team

————

Lashing and securing whilst transporting at sea. Procedure for consulting with you whenever we have a doubt.

————

Indeed covering all topics in 2 days seminar, maybe it can be split into more number of days, so that each topic can be focussed

————

Cover a bit more on transportation, Trailers, SPMT’s, Trailers selection, barge loading

————

Preferred to make separate: i) Preliminary, ii) Advanced, iii) Master categorisation for Seminars. In total it is definitely an excellent Seminar to attend and I really appreciate Mr. Richard’s attitude to pass on the knowledge & experience which he gained working for 30+ years to others & have a noble thought for making Heavy Lift & Transportation Industry “SAFER”

————

Nothing to comment, simply excellent & I am happy to see mR.Richard share knowledge with others. I wish him all success, peace, happiness in life

————-

Very informative course and useful for personnel involved in Transport Industry.
Please more information on general inspection of lifting equipment

————–

1- More details & photographs required for lifting of heavy reactors / Pressure Vessels using one main crane and one tail crane

2- One sample copy of erection scheme with all calculations/details to be posted on website for erection weight more then 600 ton

3- More detail photographs of strand jack, especially when reactors are at some level/height & at same place

————–

I love to learn, this learning in two days was great, lot of information, well delivered in a very limited time. Feel confident in practical application, Thank you!!

—————

The Program is very good and should be given regularly so that knowledge can be put on the job

—————

Should spend more time on calculations. Anyway it was really interesting

—————

—————————

Great Work! You need to have people (Companies) support your website. I appreciate your experience

———————-

Excellent Course! Would love to have more information on Platform Trailers. Lots of mis information exist in the Industry on Platform Trailers. I appreciate you teaching people about platform trailers

———————-

Excellent Seminar

————————

Provide calculation examples for key problems

————————

Very interesting and informative

———————–

Great Job!

————————

Discussions became too long at times and Breaktimes were not enforced. Consider a timekeeper , because being far off schedule is not acceptable. Otherwise excellent Course!!

————————

Very Good, it should be delivered in a 3 Days Course, as there is lots of relevant information

————————

Would like to have more information on cargo handling on lowboys and other equipments, also Route/Road handling and suggestions (on cargo handling/Bridges/Limitations etc.)

————————

All excellent, Thank you very much!

————————

I would like to add a third day. Too much information for 2 Days!

————————

Very Nice experience overall to be informed by Richard on a very niche market/shipping segment. Wish to attend again. Perhaps more can be spoken about ship operations.

Kind rgds,

Burak

————————

Enjoyed the class. Very informative and well recommended to others. Especially anyone involved in Heavy Lift & Transport.

Being a Masterclas, I expected a little more in depth discussion of Transport Stability. Found out in class there are additional “In Depth” Classes.

————

A lot of information to process, but very interesting!!! Thank you

————

Great Course, Excellent content. Needed more time for me on equations

————

Very well done!!!

————

Interesting Course, but subjective/generalistic

————

Need an electronic Hand-out

———–

Make sure the hand-outs are available at the start of the Seminar – Great Course!!

————

Extremely informative and have learned a lot more of information

————

Thank you very much!!, It was of great value to me.

————-

The time taken for this class is rather short. It requires a bit more time in order to get the technical information better understood

————-

Need to have a business case worked out in groups

————-

This seminar should be more then 3 days – Should get a soft copy of the Seminar presentations – Well prepared Seminar

————–

I would like to know more about force, crane positioning and other calculations

————–

Thanks for saving no effort to help and learn us. Reduce the size of Safety & Risk management chapter

————–

A couple of comprehensive lifting examples from chosen equipment to make the lifting plan & execution would be really nice.

—————

Your presentation as well as your valuable data stand in high caliber of knowledge and experience to learn

—————

Excellent and support us for continual improvement

—————

It is better that could be for a week (maybe). I mean two days is not enough to cover all the course’s information

—————

Soft copy of presentation & videos if provided to participants will be highly appreciated

—————-

It is a very good Seminar and essential for heavy lift specialists

—————–

We need another session in Maintenance & Inspection

—————-

Need more information about lifting & forces. Minimize Chapter 9 and more in Technical matters

—————-

Maybe more exercises on forces calculation

—————-

More exercises for the participants

—————–

Perhaps some summary topics should be translated to local language (Polish) to avoid misunderstanding

—————–

Do the Seminar in more days, so you can go more into details

—————–

Dear Mr. Krabbendam,

This is just a little note of thanks for your interesting and wonderful presentation. The notes and the CD provided by you are truly fabulous and informative which would surely come handy in future.

The Frankfurt Seminar on the 25th + 26th of June 2010 was the last Seminar this summer. It concludes a total of 45 Seminars, which I presented since May 2008. A total of 1017 participants have attended my Seminars. I realize that I can only present the basic principles of moving and lifting heavy loads in this two day course and have therefore limited my Seminars to lifting and transportation of heavy loads on land.

Hello Richard,
Thank you for the information, and off course the cert; it was a very good seminar and I enjoyed all parts, both seminar and social, from last weekend.

Unfortunately I have forgotten the DVD; perhaps I left it somewhere on the table; is it possible that you send me a copy as I consider it a valuable part for my job ?

Good afternoon Richard,
First of all I would like to thank you again and to congratulate you on the Seminar attended last week in Frankfurt; I’ve found it really interesting.
I’ve been also the lucky one that won the I-Pad and for sure I was happy about it!
By the way, I’ve just checked into your website and I saw few pictures about the Seminar in Frankfurt but I didn’t find out the answers of the “Multiple Choice Test and Evaluation”; can you please let me know where I can get them? When do you think to be able to send the results and the “Certificate of Attendance”?

Thank you in advance and I hope to hear from you soon.

I missed some chapters related to the heavy lift ocean transportation. i.e.. loading on H/L vessels, lashing procedures, securing etc. …..barges, ocean towing

————–

A few more breaks required, a bit more exercises for each individual, suggest only weekdays used. Would like info about securing of strength of beams used for weights spread

————–

Regarding the information provided, it should last at least another morning, or couple of hours extra every day. Apart from this, I found it very interesting

————–

“One foto often explains more then 100 words” However, in my opinion we spent too much time in day one on videos, some of them being too long. But keep the videos, but with with more “cuts”

————–

– I suggest you develop further continuation seminar, which will handle in deep the various subjects

– a lot of slides in the book are vey small and almost nor readable

————–

Richard, very informative during both of the days, could be a bit more detailed. I can recommend your course to anybody who works with heavy cargo

————–

Include more marine lifting, including ship stability

————-

Could recommend to have more abt. load out/in with ships cranes, also lashing and securing

————-

Maybe slit the Seminar in two parts: Transport and Lifting. Then you can get more in detail

————-

Split the course in 2 days to have more attention for detail. Last half day is now super rush and not satisfying

————-

Thanking you Richard, looking forward to offshore course

————-

For beginners, a more detailed course covering the nuts and bolts of business over 3-4 day

————-

Richard, if you separate the Transport in one day and next day only for lifting matters, that would be more helpfull

————-

An excellent presentation. The technical content was simplified, easily understood and made practical for site applications

————-

Maybe shorten the 2nd day by one hour

As above better quality photos & film would be good.

————–

First presentation cpuld be more technical

—————-

Local standards should be noted

—————

Very interesting! Covered all relevant topics in an engaging environment

—————

More Industry personnel should attend courses like this as the issues covered are invaluable to all in Construction

————–

Very informative sessions & course. It should be implemented as part of a training program for the Construction Industry

—————–

Pictures & Writing etc. in the Hand-out could be a bit clearer

—————-

Very good. Might pay to stick to firm times for breaks. QHSE Section was not relevant

—————

Consider running more technical courses for experienced technical personnel. Less time on HSE, we do these things every day at work

—————-

Get rid of or shorten the Safety lecture to max. 30 minutes

—————–

– Possibly focus on either lifting or transport for more specialized information.

– Less time required for Safety & Risk management

– Allows more time to focus on specific Lifting / Transport topics.

—————-

Found the course very informative, I learnt a lot. Very Good!!! Could probably not do the Safety & Rick assessment section, as the majority of persons attending all work for major companies that have well developed systems.

—————-

More on Lifting

————–

Dear Richard,

The seminar you had conducted really gave me a better understanding on heavy lifting works. I have learned a lot and sincerely wishes to Thank You for sharing your knowledge and experiences through it. And I will definitely recommended the seminar to my colleagues.

Hope to meet you again when opportunity arise.

—————

Some of the sheets in the Hand-outs (especially the tables) have small letters and should be printed out on 1 Page A4 instead of 2 slides on one page.

—————

Since you are in Singapore I suggest you do customer specific Seminras e.g.: A)Hydraulic Trailers/ SPMT’s specifically only for road transportation, B) Skidding & Jacking only for shipyards, C) Safety & Accidents strictlly for Safety & Health Officers. All one day Seminars. That will maximize your Seminar attendance.

Kelvin Ho,

Intercontinental Logistics Pte. Ltd.

—————–

Overall good content – Instructor was able to be technical enough for the informed, while still including the un-informed

—————–

Even though this is my daily work, it was very interesting and I still learned a lot of things. Very useful and nice the course exists.

————–

As some of the sections were briefly gone through I would like to be in details by those calculations

————–

A 3-Day Seminar seems suitable for the topics. More time needed where calculations are required. Stowage planning and lashing points on trailer and barge loading for Multiple cargo

—————

Dear Richard,

In all honesty, I personally find your seminar very fruitful and I must thank you for your unselfishness in sharing with your participants on your vast experience in heavy lift. Your handout and those videos are very interesting and more importantly, it can still happen in today real world despite technology are in their advancement.

I noted during the seminar in some of your slides, there are motions like the tipping of the trailer (under chapter 3, slide no. 16), Rules on Trailer Stability needed or not (chapter 11, slide no. 12) & the slides no 19 also under chapter 11 where you shown 4 slides leading to the transformer tipping over the barge. Are these in the DVD you had handed out? If not, can you send me in soft copy version for my record and I can assure you it will not reproduce nor copy or given to anybody with 1st seeking your permission.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Dear Richard,

I would like to thank you so much for the past 2 days which you had unselfishly shared your years of experience and knowledge during the 2 days Intensive Heavy Transport and Lifting Course.

I told my colleagues what happened during the course and what we learnt and also about the exam on the final day and lso certificates will be issued.

This surprise them because the word “Seminar” in Singapore means a low cost event of about $70 per pax and often attended by a large audience of about 100 people, with no coursework, no exam and no certificate but just listening to the talk. This was the main reason why they refrain from attending a 2 day “seminar” which cost $1,800.

I hope that you will consider to change the course title to “Advanced Heavy Transport and Lifting Course” which I think will be more appropriate and may help to boost up the esteem of this wonderful course.

Dear Richard

Copy of the certificate well received. Thank you.

I should say that the two day session which you conducted in Dubai was wonderful and all of my colleagues who attended the course benefited to a large extent. This will definitely enable us to improve our working standards and bring a fresh outlook to the surveys we carry out on heavy lifts on a regular basis.

Once again thank you very much for your time and effort and hope and pray that you are able to maintain the same enthusiasm and health to carry this forward for many more years to come.

Looking forward to seeing you some time.

I have indeed learned a lot from your seminar.

I am not daunted by this result and in fact, reviewing your notes again at my pace.

In an earlier discussion, you spoke about having participated in building of temporary jetty for roll out/ in purpose. I spoke with my Australian colleague on your expertise.

There could be a possibility where your expertise required. However, would you be in position to sign a non-disclosure agreement if you are appointed?

If you are back in Singapore, we could definitely catch up.

First Thank you for sharing you knowledge and wisdom with our employees. And I am glad to let you know that the feedback we got was excellent. All the employees, liked your way of presenting, and the practical examples you provided during the course.

Also, I would like to thank you for your quick action in providing us the certificates.

In regards to the marks, I believe that the course was a bit heavy on them, specially it was all in two days. But I think if we repeated the course again in the near future, it will sink in better.

I will forward the e-mail to the attendees, to get the chance in accessing the link you provided.

Thank you again, and you will hear from us in the future.

This Seminar is very good, we get to learn many things by theory. If we have practical equipment that is also very nice for us

————–

Tools need to be added, which is important to learn more

————–

I have no comment for the Seminar. Actually for me it was excellent & good!!

————–

Overall the course is excellent

————–

Either the course duration should be increased or the contents of the course should be reduced

————–

Share your presentations with others

————–

Skidding & jacking part should be in detail with more videos

————–

Safety and Risk Management is one of the most important topics of this Seminar. Increase its priority in the Seminar sequence. (I.e. as first chapter)

————–

You should give more time for the test! Your explanations takes a lot time more than the time available to do the calculation

————-

You caspan style=”font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;”/pn use the Seminar to help us later on by arranging to sell the books of Heavy Lift, through even mail but you know the source of the book and we may find it hard to search for

————-

I cannot make any suggestion anymore, because what I experienced in this seminar is all I had experienced in actual job and some additional knowledge I got

————-

For the future: Instead of 2 days plan to extend to 3 or even 4 days at least. We can learn a lot more information

————-

Good presentation and insight into Heavy Transsportation

————-

Richard was a great instructor. I would enjoy learning more!!

————-

Most of the information provided is not easily available in books. Practical experience with documentation is an excellent combination. We could do more for our customers in the Middle East.

Very good presentation, very informative. This organization should work with concerned groups to bring rules and regulation for safe working by insisting on inspection & testing followed by safe working practice

—————

Overall an excellent Seminar. Thank You.

Where participants are to calculate or draw something from the whiteboard, it would help to have more blank pages in the hand-out to write notes in the correct pages. Otherwise excellently organized

—————-

A well spoken man with a vast quantity of experience passing on the knowledge, using examples from his career. Well worth the two days

————–

It is best information to anybody who is involved in Heavy lifting business. I enjoyed the program and I suggest to add more heavy lift projects and heavy lift equipment with full safety and PPE presentation. (Safety no compromize)

————-

I would like to have your Seminar for more then 2 days

————-

Good, Informative, Interactive Seminar. Very useful for all kind of personnel, viz. top management, middle management, lower management or operational personnel. Good supported with examples. Suggestions: The Seminar should be extended from 2 days Seminar into 3 days: Day 1: Transportation; Day 2 : Erection, Day 3: Project planning. Miscellaneous, Accidents

————-

1) Two days of Seminar on Heavy Lifting is too short for such a vast subject

2) Need more classification and clarification

————-

A nice Seminar from a highly experienced person. Thank you Richard

————-

Two days is not enough for such an extensive Seminar

————-

It was a very beneficial Seminar, giving important info, experience and giving a lot of commentary and solutions. Congratulations it is a very successful Seminar

————-

Maybe Friday was not the best day in the Middle East

————-

It would be good to allow another half day to leave more time for discussion/particular questions, especially when you have a multi- discipline crowd who each have their own technical interests….

————–

Same subjects could be treated in three days, more time—– and spend more time on Heavy lifting issues

————–

More Technical data, information and time for heavy lifting arguments

————–

Spend more time on heavy lifting, one more day would have been better to see the second part of the Seminar a little bit slower

————–

It is very helpful for all people who are working in the heavy lift Industry. It is very helpful information for me to learn something more about in this field

————–

Good and informative Seminar. Though concentrated & focused for people in the heavy lift industry, certain aspects were useful from a point of view of Risk Managers and Accessors & Surveyors. A good Seminar overall: “RECOMMENDED”

————–

Found the Seminar very informative and useful

————–

To have individual Seminars for each subject, so we have longer time

————–

Thank you first! I suggest this can be more detailed and that can be done by dividing the people between the ones interested in general knowledge and those who are interested in more detailed engineering approach. The way & topics discussed were excellent, but we are looking at more engineering details

—————

If some more industry experts are involved it would be nice to know about their experience and their point of view

————–

More info on jacking and skidding techniques

————–

If time would allow, it would me nice to get the audience involved in a case study, possib
