At the annual meeting of ESTA (the European Association of Heavy Transport and Lifting companies), Wagenborg Nedlift won the ESTA Award in the category ‘lifting jobs up to 120 tons’.

The prizewinning job was executed in June 2011.  In order to supply the new built Magnum Powerplant in Eemshaven with gas, a new gas pipeline had to be constructed from Gasunie Spijk gas network up to the new  power plant. This gas pipeline crosses the one and only main road to Eemshaven industrial park.

SSCV THIALF is a semi-submersible crane vessel operated by Heerema Marine Contractors, the largest crane vessel in the world.

After completion of the drydocking period at the Keppel Verolme yard the crane vessel was shifted by several tugs from Rotterdam-Botlek to the Heerema location in the Caland Canal. The 136.709 GRT cranevessel was constructed in 1985 as DB-102 for McDermott by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. In 1997, it was taken over by Heerema Marine Contractors after discontinuation of their joint venture with McDermott, HeereMac, and renamed Thialf. Costa Concordia to be salvaged in 1 piece

Salvage work to remove the capsized Costa Concordia cruise ship from its rocky perch off Tuscany, where 32 people died, will begin early next month and is expected to take a year, the Italian owner announced Saturday. The U.S.-owned company Titan Salvage won the bid to remove the ship, which struck a reef off the tourist-dependent island of Giglio on Jan. 13, after the captain veered off course and steered the liner carrying 4,200 people close to shore in an apparent stunt. Thirty-two passengers and crew members died in the frantic and delayed evacuation. Two of those remain missing. The salvage plan, which still needs approval by Italian authorities, foresees removing the ship in one piece and towing it to an Italian port, Costa said. Workers completed the removal of fuel from the Concordia on March 24, and Costa said environmental protection will be a “top priority” during the ship’s removal. Jumbo confirms order for second K-3000 heavy lift vessel

Jumbo Shipping – market leader in oversized and heavyweight cargo transportation – has confirmed the order for a second new K-class vessel, with an option on a third, to complement its existing fleet.

After careful consideration and engineering study, Jumbo has decided to upgrade the lifting capacity of the vessels from 2×1,300 to 2×1,500mt Mastcranes, enabling tandem lifts of 3,000mt. These vessels will comfortably surpass the capability of other vessels in their class and reassert Jumbo’s leading market position.

This latest investment underlines Jumbo’s long-term commitment to its existing and new clients. The company’s strategy of continuing re-investment, renewal and development of its fleet is proceeding, as has been its practice for more than forty years. To provide optimum and timely solutions to its clients needs, irrespective of transient economic and shipping market cycles.

Concordia final decision: ship to be righted and towed away in one piece

After two months of speculation about what will be done with the wreck of the Costa Concordia, and with negotations still going on with salvage experts, it is now known that whoever gets the job will have to refloat the ship and tow it to its home port of Genoa in one piece. Salvage teams and engineers are expected to begin work in May, and the entire process is expected to take a year. The cost of the salvage operation is expected to approach £180 million ($288 million US).
