Location: Chernobyl – Ukraine

Equipment used: CC 8800-1

SarensCC8800Sarens participated in the New Safe Confinement Project at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in  the Ukraine. The purpose of the project is to fully  contain the damaged nuclear reactor building and prevent the reactor complex from leaking further radioactive material into the environment for the  next 100 years. Unit 4 of the reactor building will  be encased in a massive arched steel structure.

Before this could happen, the old chimney had to  be removed with the help of Sarens’ CC8800-1 in  its almost full configuration. After the stabilization  of each of the 7 tube parts, the chimney could  be removed by sections, each weighing  approximately 55t. Any miscalculations could  cause a cloud of radioactive dust, but this challenging operation was brought to a successful  end. The complete old chimney was removed  safely. SOURCE: Sarens

A first: Fibre hoisting rope in a Mobile Crane!!

The KZTM100 hoist rope offers many benefits. It is 80% lighter than wire rope and boasts torque neutral construction that eliminates load spin and cabling. The new hoist material also makes for easy handling, reeving and installation as it reduces kinking, bird caging and damage from other types of cable-spooling issues.

Mike Herbert, director of product planning and marketing for Manitowoc, said the KZTM100 was a welcome innovation and a value-added option for Grove users. Continue reading “Manitowoc and Samson unveil KZTM100 rope (Fiber Hoist Rope) for mobile cranes” »

NICOLAS MDED and NICOLAS side girder deck with a more than five-fold ratio payload and tare weight!

NICOLAS MDED and NICOLAS side girder deck with a more than five-fold ratio between the payload and tare weight comfortably master the endurance test on a difficult route across the Apennines

Champs/Yonne, March 2014

The Marcianise-Rosara route which crosses the Italian Apennine mountain range is a challenge in itself: featuring 350 km of steep gradients, tight corners and difficult road conditions. Aliani Project S.r.l., a long-standing customer of the TII Group, transported a transformer along this route on behalf of the GETRA company and which was to be used at the TERNA power plant in Rosara. Aliani therefore decided to use a vehicle combination that consisted of a NICOLAS MDED platform trailer and NICOLAS side girder deck (width and height-adjustable) with a 230 tonne loading capacity and 41 tonne tare weight – altogether this corresponds to a factor of 5.6 (tare weight/payload ratio).

The dimensions of the transformer were a very compact 10.5 x 3.9 x 4.5 metres – a concentrated load which the NICOLAS MDED easily took in its stride. The excellent payload/tare weight ratio kept the weight of the total combination as low as possible – clearly a decisive advantage when negotiating steep inclines. In addition, the NICOLAS MDED has an extremely low platform height of 755 mm.

Bridge? No problem, with its low platform height of 755 mm, the NICOLAS MDED ensures a low overall height during transport.

34-tonne axle load, a steering angle of up to 55° and a broad range of accessories for a wide variety of applications turn the NICOLAS MDED into a versatile and efficient vehicle that is being successfully used around the world.
